Obama offers up bitter, depressing, racially divisive commencement speeches
For eight years, Barack Obama was the president of the most powerful nation in the world. In the three years since then, he’s become one of the wealthiest men in America, with an estimated net worth of $70 million. You’d think he’d be happy. He’s not.
Instead, as Obama demonstrated in two videos streamed on Saturday to high school students and the graduates of historic black colleges, he’s still trafficking in anger, misery, and racial oppression. The man is a serious downer, despite his perky delivery.
Obama’s first virtual commencement speech was a short video prepared for graduating high school seniors. It pairs a vicious partisan attack with unseemly racial whining.
Congrats to the high school Class of 2020, as well as to the teachers, coaches, and most of all, parents and family who’ve guided you along the way. Thanks for letting me be part of your big day! pic.twitter.com/RjYvHs2BhC

Much of what Obama said was generic blah-blah about high school and the difficulties of the shutdown. But then he swung into the standard embittered leftist riff about economic inequality and racism, two things that, ironically enough, increased dramatically on his watch:
All of which means that you’re going to have to grow up faster than some generations. This pandemic has shaken up the status quo and laid bare a lot of our country’s deep-seated problems — from massive economic inequality to ongoing racial disparities to a lack of basic health care for people who need it. It’s woken a lot of young people up to the fact that the old ways of doing things just don’t work; that it doesn’t matter how much money you make if everyone around you is hungry and sick; and that our society and our democracy only work when we think not just about ourselves, but about each other.
Obama threw in an attack against inept politicians, something that was aimed at Trump, but landed thuddingly against Biden, Cuomo, and other Democrat lockdown mavens:
It’s also pulled the curtain back on another hard truth, something that we all have to eventually accept once our childhood comes to an end. All those adults that you used to think were in charge and knew what they were doing? Turns out that they don’t have all the answers. A lot of them aren’t even asking the right questions.
Unsatisfied with dropping bile into high schoolers’ ears, Obama redoubled the effort when speaking at a virtual commencement for historically black colleges and universities:
Once again, Obama stirred up racial grievances, trying to re-fan the flames in a black community that, until the Wuhan virus, had benefitted greatly from President Trump:
You're being asked to find your way in a world in the middle of a devastating pandemic and a terrible recession. The timing is not ideal. And let’s be honest: A disease like this just spotlights the underlying inequalities and extra burdens that black communities have historically had to deal with in this country. We see it in the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on our communities, just as we see it when a black man goes for a jog and some folks feel like they can stop and question and shoot him if he doesn’t submit to their questioning.
The only thing Obama forgot to say was that, if he’d had a son, he would have been just like Ahmaud Arbery, including, one would guess, Arbery’s mental health issues and criminal convictions.
For Obama’s base, which has never recovered from Hillary’s loss, the speech was manna from Heaven. Many, like Dan Rather, continue to be impressed by Obama’s mastery of the TelePrompter. It’s a delight to see Steven L. Miller put Rather’s raptures in perspective:
Funny thing here is this exactly what Rather thought of Bush, which is why he tried that silly little document stunt that resulted in his ass fired and humiliated everywhere except on Brian Stelter’s show. https://t.co/hy8U27lHcU

Contrast Obama’s nagging negativity with President Trump’s buoyancy in the face of a genuine economic crisis:
.....are therefore given massive advantages over The United States, and everyone else? Prior to the Plague floating in from China, our Economy was blowing everybody away, the best of any country, EVER. We will be there again, and soon!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 16, 2020
Let me repeat his words: “[O]ur Economy was blowing everybody away, the best of any country, EVER. We will be there again, and soon!”
Given the speed with which Trump overturned Obama’s legacy, Obama is proving to be a has-been who never was. His nefarious scheme to overthrow the Trump administration is falling around his ears. All he’s got left is a slobbering media and some indoctrinated young people who think he’s cool and articulate. It’s doubtful that that will be enough to drag Biden over the finish line in November.
