The party that can't govern
It happens every time I debate a liberal on Spanish TV. He wants Congress to pass immigration reform or DACA or a ban on assault weapons.
Then I ask a simple question: why didn't you do it when you had majorities?
Then they call Trump a racist, and nothing much happens after that.
Have we reached a point where Democrats are simply unable to get anything done? Are they just the talking party?
I agree with Daniel Henninger: "So what, other than hunting Donald Trump, does the Democratic Party stand for?"
I have come to the conclusion that hating or stopping Trump is the only thing that can keep two Democrats from stabbing each other to death.
Health care? They don't really agree on anything other than everyone should have access to health care.
Don't they know that Obamacare already does that? Anyone in the U.S. can go to the ObamaCare website and find a policy. You cannot be denied one because of pre-existing conditions, and there are subsidies.
So don't we already have what they are calling for? Yes. The problem is not access, but paying for the policies. The other problem is that they told people it would be affordable, but in fact it is not at all.
On raising taxes on the rich, or the canard about everyone paying his fair share, they did absolutely zero when they ran the show.
On immigration reform or DACA, lots of talk, but nothing got done. In fact, President Trump offered to sit down with them in the spring of 2018, but they wanted no part of talking about DACA. They threw the "DREAMers" under the bus rather than share a DACA victory with the administration.
Is it fair for Americans to look at Democrats and say this is not a party that can get anything done? I say yes!
The bottom line is that they got nothing done when they had the votes. They did impeach President Trump, and that's the extent of their record.
