Joe Biden panders to Obama on a Supreme Court slot
In a departure from the Democratic Party candidate preoccupation of offering up ever bigger banquets of free stuff to voters, Joe Biden has said something that sticks out.
He'd offer a Supreme Court spot to former President Barack Obama, "if he'd take it."
Here's a report from the Epoch Times:
Former Vice President Joe Biden said that he would nominate former President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court if he won the presidency, according to several reports.
Speaking to reporters in Iowa, Biden was asked about whether Obama could get the nod to the nation’s highest court.
“Biden asked here in Washington, Iowa, if he would ever nominate former President Obama to serve on the Supreme Court. ‘If he’d take it, yes,’” wrote Wall Street Journal reporter Ken Thomas on Twitter.
New York Times reporter Thomas Kaplan confirmed the former vice president’s “If he’d take it, yes,” statement.
That's a pander.
It not only comes off as a bid to suck up to Obama by offering him this pretty bauble as an incentive to get an endorsement, it also would be pretty useful for Old Joe politically, not having the Obama political machine to worry about if he makes it to the White House, what with Obama being figuratively kicked upstairs to some non-intersecting branch of government. Sure, the question was thrown at Biden, Biden didn't offer it up unsolicited. But Biden was ready with his answer when the question came, which rather looks like he'd thought about the matter earlier and figured this would be a way to win new votes on the left. Given how the media operates these days, it's also possible the question was planted.
Obama, Supreme Court, what a great reason to vote for Joe Biden, so the idea goes.
Bottom line, it shows that Biden is still using Obama as a means of propping up his popularity with the Democratic base given that his own record is pretty pathetic and he still doesn't have that coveted Obama endorsement in hand, even as the Democratic frontrunner. Obama has already humiliated Biden by declining to endorse him even as Biden wretchedly claims he didn't want that endorsement at this point, and worse yet, Obama has humiliated him as reports have leaked out about his disparagements of the man. For Joe to bring up Obama for Supreme Court suggests he wants that Obama endorsement pretty bad, and if he can't get it, then to use a pro-offered Supreme Court slot as a proxy for it. Kind of like an Obama endorsement without the endorsement.
For Republicans and independents, the idea also is an extra kick for not voting for Joe Biden.
An Obama Supreme Court would be at least as disastrous as an Obama presidency. We already know that just by the intellectually appalling quality of most Obama court nominees, something that Ruth Bader Ginsburg years ago signaled her contempt for as subpar peers. Obama himself would take the intellectual heft of the Court even lower.
Worse still, Obama was probably the most lawless person ever to occupy the White House. Putting him in charge of interpreting the law itself would be a disaster, given his presidential record. Obama was a guy who invented laws through executive order, such as DACA, when he couldn't persuade Congress to pass real ones. He got smacked down by judges for his lawless bid to halt deep sea drilling, and then defied court orders to stop that, only to get smacked down even harder by judges. His contempt for the First Amendment is simply legendary -- he famously spied on the Associated Press wholesale, he illegally surveilled reporters such as James Rosen and Sharyl Attkisson, in a blatant violation of their First Amendment rights, he had a whole list of violations on that front in a list that was quite amazing. Worst of all, Obama is still ground zero as the unindicted co-conspirator of the deep state effort to oust President Trump, not just before he was elected, but after, too. He was the president of the unmaskings, the corrupted FISA surveillance process, and the phony Steele dossier, all of which have yet to be adjudicated through the Durham report.
He's the last guy anyone would want on the Supreme Court, given its focus on law. Obama's not about any laws, he's utterly contemptuous of law, and would corrupt the judicial branch into a partisan political machine beyond repair.
Hideous idea. But Joe finds it politically useful for advancing his campaign, so out he throws the idea to win votes. Biden, it seems, is that desperate.
