Beto O'Rourke: The last minstrel

While President Trump was holding his rally in El Paso for a packed stadium, the hapless Beto O'Rourke was hosting his own pathetic anti-wall protest, his "March for Truth," a quarter of a mile away.  His little march attracted about three hundred people.  His attendees were flying Mexican flags, and his gathering was close enough to the Trump event that the big rally's music could be heard.

It may be safe to say that Beto's potential run for president is over before it has begun.  He is a self-serving, anti-American intellectual lightweight like Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and every other democrat who has thrown his hat in the ring for 2020.

Over at American Mirror, a commenter to a column by Kyle Olson about all this, Roy_Bean, cited a poem by Sir Walter Scott (1805) that perfectly describes people like Beto, Obama, Hillary Clinton, Schumer, Harry Reid , Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the Left:

Breathes there the man, with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
This is my own, my native land!
Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd,
As home his footsteps he hath turn'd,
From wandering on a foreign strand!
If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
For him no Minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud be his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim;
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentered all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonour'd, and unsung.

The poem is entitled "The Lay of the Last Minstrel."  Has there ever been a more apt description of the recent past and current crop of Democrats in Congress?  They run for office not to work for their constituents; they seem to loathe them.  They believe themselves to be superior in every way and thus not required to serve the people who voted for them.  They are in office to become rich, and rich they do become.  Pelosi, Feinstein, Harry Reid, the Clintons, Obama, et. al. have all become fabulously wealthy because of the powerful offices they held or hold in Congress.  Their salary is in the $100K-$200K range, and yet most of them are now multi-millionaires.

Do they care one bit about the people they represent?  Not at all, which is why they work so hard to keep our borders open to all comers, no matter the death and destruction so many illegal aliens visit upon American citizens.  Do they bother about the billions in taxpayer dollars that must be spent on the millions of illegals to sustain them here, provide them with food, shelter, and medical care?  Not at all.  They mean to punish those of us who want national security and protected borders, for loving our country as founded; we are nothing but lambs for the slaughter in their quest for permanent political supremacy.

The Beltway denizens, those who are so entrenched in the belief in their "new world order" (globalism), the hoax of man-caused climate change, and their notion that Trump is an unqualified interloper, are most likely hysterical at the moment because Trump's approval numbers continue to climb despite their non-stop 24/7 vicious attacks on the man since he became the Republican candidate.  The SOTU speech was so glorious, so uplifting.  More and more Americans are waking up to the many successes of Trump's presidency.  Their quality of life is undeniably better.  Unemployment is at an all-time low.  Nothing makes the Left madder than to see all this happening on Trump's watch.  He is making it happen and they hate him for the spectacular results he has achieved.

As the poem so presciently describes, our Left's souls are dead.  Leftists care little for their "native land."  They are all about their "titles," their power and ill gotten wealth (pelf).  They are all about their antipathies, their prejudices, once kept under wraps but now out in the open thanks to the unbridled rhetoric of several new members of the House.  May they go down "to the vile dust, from whence they sprung, Unwept, unhounour'd, and unsung."
