Could equine therapy cure Anthony Weiner's sex addiction?
Anthony Weiner wants to get clean! He's checked himself into a sex addiction clinic.
As the Daily Mail reports:
In September we revealed how the out-of-control Weiner was sexting with a 15-year-old high school girl. ...
At the time of the sexts, Weiner was still married to [Huma] Abedin – although he complained about their lack of a sex life to the girl – and caring for their son while she campaigned intensively for Clinton.
The article does not say what kind of treatment Weiner will receive. A few Google searches have come up with an interesting trend: a common treatment for sex addiction is equine therapy. Do you think Weiner is getting equine therapy, and if so, could it cure him of his disease?
Here is a typical course of treatment for sex addicts at a clinic called Oxbow. First, they are given a baby foal to caress:
Within about 24 hours after the baby's birth, our students have the opportunity to touch and rub the tiny horse. Ears, nose, feet, belly are all rubbed or stroked to help the horse become unafraid of people and the kind of handling it will experience later in life. Through this experiential activity, students see the importance of families, the effects of positive versus negative touch, trust and relationships.
Do you think the physical sensations of rubbing a baby horse would help wean Weiner off his interest in underage girls?
Every autumn Oxbow students participate in a unique experiential called Paint the Pony. This activity involves poster paints, live horses, and the opportunity for students to express their story through symbols.
Oxbow's equine team teaches the boys common symbols created by Native American warriors. Tribes would often decorate their ponies with these symbols prior to important hunts or battles.
Using that model, Oxbow students develop their own symbols of important events in their lives. Once they have created and explained their symbols, each student is given the opportunity to paint his story on a live horse[.]
Could Weiner, painting his Twitter romances on the side of a horse, express his life in a way that could be cathartic to him?
Here's the work done at another academy for sex-crazed boys:
Research has shown greater success of equine therapy when compared to traditional talk therapy in treating sensitive attachment-based issues such as sexual addictions, internet pornography addiction, and compulsive sexual behaviors. Learning to trust a 1,000 pound horse, and gaining that horse's trust, helps each boy overcome personal barriers, learn responsibility, and accept accountability.
Could learning to trust a thousand-pound horse help Weiner learn responsibility and accept accountability?
If not, what kind of sex therapy do you think could cure Weiner?
