Pity the poor word fragment 'hu'
Apparently, no one except Islamists and terrorist wreckers remembers to pronounce it.
All we get is newscasters mistakenly requoting screams of the insurgent killers from ancient blighted lands. The newscasters always drone, "And the murderer/Islamic radical/terrorist was shouting Allah akbar, according to witnesses still alive to tell us."
But it is wrong, that citation.
These organized and disorganized jihadis are not shouting just Allah akbar, but Allahu akbar, and therein lies all the difference.
Purists must recognize the shortfall in the vocalization.
The correct formulation is Allahu – hu – akbar. Allah is, as Muhammad Ali might have once said of himself – the Greatest.
You wouldn't run up to your neighbor and shout hell!, would you? You would always remember to add that final vowel, "o." The correct form is, we all know, hello, not hell.
We in the grammatical guardianship group worry about the dropped "hu" and plead with reporters, TV newsmen and women, and folks in general: do not forget the hu when you say the when and the how.
