So commencement addresses are now for partisan cheap shots?

Once upon a time, you'd look forward to a commencement speech.  They were supposed to be inspirational and uplifting.  They were designed to congratulate the graduates and encourage them to achieve the best in the real world.

Not long ago, one of my sons graduated from Texas A&M, and Gen. David H. Petraeus delivered a fabulous speech.

Our #2 son graduated from SMU Law School, and President Bush spoke with humor and inspired the graduates to be great.

Well, that was then, and this is now.  This is a commencement address by Secretary Kerry just days ago:

John Kerry used his commencement speech at Northeastern University on Friday to take a thinly veiled swipe at Donald Trump, saying, "Greatness isn't about bragging, it's about doing."

"There are no walls big enough to stop people from anywhere, tens of thousands of miles away, who are determined to take their own lives while they target others," he said.

The secretary of state noted that this year's graduating class represented students from nearly 80 different countries— "the most diverse class in Northeastern's history."

"In other words, you are Donald Trump's worst nightmare," said Kerry.

Are you kidding me?  Donald Trump's worst nightmare?

Maybe Secretary Kerry should talk to a few young people this week.  He may be shocked to learn that their worst nightmare is finding a job or paying off college debts.

Is this what we have sunk to?  We can't pass up an opportunity to indoctrinate young people with the party dogma.  That's what they do in Venezuela and Cuba, not the U.S.

Secretary Kerry, you should be worried about the Iran nuclear deal and ISIS.  That's what really threatens our young people.
