A headline on Mediaite reads, “AJAM’s David Shuster Exclusive: Hillary Clinton to be Interviewed by FBI Director Comey in Coming Days.”  AJAM means Al Jazeera America, the soon to vanish cable news channel.  Because Drudge has the headline at the top of his page, it is generating much comment, much of it on the extraordinary prospect of the FBI chief personally conducting an interview with Herself.

I have watched the entire AJAM segment embedded in the article, and nowhere does it actually state that Comey will conduct the interview.

… Comey’s FBI team has been joined by the Justice Department prosecutors. Together, they are now examining the evidence, analyzing relevant laws, and attempting to arrange interviews with key figures in the investigation.

Those interviews, according to attorneys, will include former State Department aides Philippe Reines, Former Clinton Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills, and Clinton herself.

Soon after those interviews — in the next few days and weeks — officials expect Director Comey to make his recommendation to Attorney General Loretta Lynch about potential criminal charges.

Later on, Mediaite’s Joe Concha writes:

If the report is accurate, Hillary Clinton goes before Director Comey and the FBI in a matter of days. The outcome of that interview could end up changing the entire race for the White House.

Comey has many responsibilities beyond this investigation, and even though he has stated that he is closely involved, he has subordinates who are completely in command of all the details and who would be in a far better position to lead Clinton through a careful examination of her claims.  At most, I think Comey might attend the interview, as a courtesy to the former high rank of Hillary.  But I strongly suspect that the actual examination will be in the hands of people who have lived and breathed the investigation for many months now.

Anything else would raise serious questions about the investigation.
