Other people's kids

It has been well-known for years in conservative circles that the left is extremely charitable with other people’s money.  In fact, liberals are notorious for their dearth of personal charity, instead favoring government programs that personally cost them nothing.  Look to Vice President Biden’s recent income tax returns showing a near total lack of personal charitable contributions.  It is a curious but undeniable characteristic of the left, stemming perhaps from a cast-aside of personal responsibility for their fellow man, in favor of collective responsibility.  This certainly holds true for a great many, and it grows from a philosophical underpinning of their entire philosophy, that government – not you – is your brother’s keeper.

What is fascinating from a purely philosophical perspective – and chilling from a personal perspective – is that the left has graduated from other people’s money to other peoples’ kids.  In its counterintuitive, if not psychotic, love affair with militant Islamism, the left now seems willing to not simply spend your money, but also roll the dice with your kids.

Think for a second: the chances of a terrorist incident affecting any particular individual leftist – or their progeny – is miniscule.  They get that.  The next incident, when it comes, will affect somebody’s kids, but not theirs.  And they’re good with that.  When the next ISIS disciple shoots up a mall/school/movie theater/stadium, well, that’s horrible – but acceptable.  Acceptable because you really expect the sociopathic ambitions of a billion-some adherents to remain contained, especially if the foremost goal is to minister to their social needs/politico-religious sensibilities/travel plans.  But also acceptable to the left because it really didn’t affect them or theirs personally.

Now, if some enterprising caliphate-aspirer managed to take out large swaths of Georgetown and Chevy Chase, maybe that would be different, but really, how likely is that?  Meanwhile, we all need to buck up, do our part, and sacrifice whoever needs sacrificing so that we can achieve peace without seeking to offend.
