Unbeknownst to most Americans, the left is waging its own anti-woman battle under the guise of so-called transgender rights.  Every so often, lest we forget, liberals decry the Republican war on women.  They shout these accusations as loud as they can, but it is the underlying hypocrisy that I find deafening.

Because hailing every new project of social deconstruction as the next civil rights issue has proven effective in silencing dissenters, it should surprise no one that the transgender movement has co-opted this language.  Last month, Bruce “Caitlyn” Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPYs for deciding to lead the rest of his life as a woman.  Bravo.  She now stars in a docu-series I am Cait, which chronicles her days post-transition “living as the person she feels she was born to be.”

Transgender women are physiologically healthy men who undergo hormone intervention and (in 15% of cases) genital surgery as part of a sex reassignment procedure, hoping to alleviate their gender-associated distress.  Many (like Caitlyn Jenner) claim to possess a “female brain” or “essence” as part of a mysterious medical condition causing a brain-body mismatch.  Others (like helicopter pilot Bob “Zoey” Tur) conflate transgenderism with intersex medical conditions, wherein the individual is born with abnormal chromosomes.  Both these arguments champion a “born this way” political ideology that is scientifically inaccurate and intellectually dishonest.

According to the research conducted by renowned psychiatrists such as Dr. Paul McHugh and gender scientists including J. Michael Bailey, Anne Lawrence, Jay Prosser, and Ray Blanchard, gender dysphoric men transition for two reasons: (1) they experience same-sex attraction and wish to pass as women (e.g., Janet Mock) or (2) they experience sexual arousal by the thought of themselves as women – autogynephilia.

The addiction to identity politics and privileging of individual sexual freedom over all else has become so all-consuming that liberals now deny science with chutzpah that would make the hardest of creationists proud.  In the last year, since our society apparently reached the transgender tipping point, liberals have upped the ante.  They demand that we all divorce womanhood from biological femaleness, so that some men can live out their sexual scripts amidst public celebration.

In state legislatures across the nation, Democrats are rallying together to realize this fantasy by introducing bills that would allow transgender persons to change their legal ID, and access public restrooms of the gender with which they identify.  Equating unfettered sexual freedom to progress is neoliberal cliché; advocating for it, however, at the expense of the privacy rights and public safety of all American women is misogyny 2.0.
