Democrats once again place party before country and duty
Back in May of this year, the Senate voted 98 to 1 on a measure that allowed Congress to review a nuclear deal with Iran. That would mean that roughly 44 Senate Democrats voted for the legislation at that point in time.
Flash forward to today.
The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 mandates that the 60-day congressional review period cannot begin until the nuclear agreement with Iran, and all related materials outlined in the Act, are transmitted to Congress. President Obama has failed to provide separate side agreements and federal guidance materials to Congress, so the review period cannot have begun without the majority leader's consent.
The Democrats apparently have not stood by their May 2015 vote. Materials have not been provided by Obama, and there have been no questions at press conferences of President Obama as to why this has not occurred, yet the agreement progresses. Void of information, short on facts, and without the transparency and debate necessary in such a matter, the "deal" goes forward.
Lost are the checks and balances of our system. Distant and forgotten is the historical and constitutional requirement that the Senate ratify treaties with other nations rather than be forced to muster the votes to override them, as in this case.
Sadly, the GOP lies down again. The Republicans control both the House and the Senate, yet Obama gets what he wants in some magical fashion and circumvention of our system of government.
As one pundit put it, the Iranians declare death to America and promise that Israel will be wiped off the map. Our negotiators ply their trade with a "can you meet us halfway on that?" tactic. That just isn't good enough.
