Time to resurrect 'Un-American Activities'?
The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) was created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees, and those organizations suspected of having Communist ties.
And:
The work of the committee continued to decline in importance throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s until the committee itself was renamed the House Internal Security Committee in 1969, prefiguring its eventual abolition in 1975.
We all know of what many believed as overreach and showmanship by Joe McCarthy during the life of this committee. McCarthyism is the term born from that era, and a term that now resides with the usual smears such as homophobe, xenophobe, tinfoil hat wearer, ad infinitum.
I was piqued by Jorge Ramos and his apparent pride in being an American citizen, yet also seemingly having a warm spot for his former employer La Raza and groups that cheer the “reconquest” of the American Southwest by citizens of a foreign nation. Imagine any immigrant from another country promoting a takeover of another section of our nation. “For what purpose” is the question that leaps to mind.
These groups are engaged in activities that could be termed “un-American” by some, or maybe by many. There are other activities, upon examination, that might just qualify for “un-American.”
Encouraging the creation of “sanctuary cities” is nothing more than creating a shelter within the borders of our country and contrary to the law of the nation. Is it not un-American to encourage the violation of the laws of the country, and is it not geometrically a greater un-American activity when the persons doing so are federal officials sworn to an oath contrary to their actions?
Importing foreign workers to displace American workers is the new way for corporations to pump up their bottom lines. Disney is just one example. The old argument of bringing foreigners to do jobs “Americans won’t do” doesn’t apply here.
Importing foreign students to displace American students is also a trendy but dangerous ploy. Private universities should be scolded. However, state universities should be prohibited from such activities. The sons and daughters, the grandsons and granddaughters of those who served the nation in the past and in many capacities, are often pushed aside, despite academic qualifications, to make room for the foreign student. Those foreigners can be charged more tuition as they tap into grants and such. The university revenue stream builds. American exceptionalism seems to be cast aside here. Student visas are just one more stepping stone to the anchor baby game.
Calling for the lynching and hanging of police. Black activists have done just that.
Pushing unread legislation to promote party over country, perhaps. Putting politics before consideration of what is good for the country is an old Washington, D.C. sport. But when such legislation captures one sixth of the United States economy to the federal power, sloppy legislative duty does not begin to describe the unread and jammed through Affordable Care Act machinations.
All of these activities have a certain “un-American” tinge to them, if not a blatant element. Some may not be considered “un-American” at all by some. However, all steer the nation in a direction different from what was once the course of this country. It as if a fundamental transformation is taking place. Did I say “fundamental transformation”? We were warned.
