Bush, having trouble raising money, cuts salaries for staffers
Remember when Jeb Bush was on top of the polls? Or Scott Walker? Both have now fallen to the point where they are fighting for table scraps, tied for fourth place in New Hampshire. Bush has 7%, while Trump has 35%. A new national poll is no better for Bush, showing Trump with a 30-point lead (40% to 10%) over Bush. And now Bush is apparently having trouble raising money and, incredibly, paying staffers:
A prominent Florida donor backing Bush said the former Sunshine State governor and his supporting super PAC are having to work even harder to keep up the pace, as hard-money contributions have been harder to come by in recent weeks.
“The debate performance scared a few people,” said Brian Ballard, a Tallahassee lobbyist backing Bush.
When Trump says repeatedly that Bush is too "low-energy" to be president, he may have a point.
“He seems a little frustrated with the Trump thing,” the donor said.
See what I mean? He's a "little" frustrated. That's one of the big problems with Jeb Bush. On everything, he's too "little."
Bush is trying to get traction by calling for defunding the abortion mill called Planned Parenthood
“I don’t think Planned Parenthood should get a penny,” he said. “They’re not actually doing women’s health issues. They’re involved in something way different than that.”
In something way different than that? What would that be, Jeb? This is his presentation problem – he's too soft-spoken, too vague.
Money has apparently dried up for Bush so much that he's cutting salaries for staffers. Most of Jeb's money is in Super PACs that he can't touch, but he raised at least 11 million dollars. Have his K Street consultants eaten through all that already? It's starting to look that way.
Right now Bush is flailing around, looking for something, anything to reinvigorate his campaign. Yesterday it was "Asian anchor babies." Today it is Planned Parenthood. But he has three albatrosses around his neck he can't easily get rid of: his love for illegal aliens, his somnolent speaking style, and his last name. Even with his $120 million, he is starting to look more and more like a paper tiger.
