Battered Congress Syndrome

Shortly after reading yesterday’s Wall Street Journal Op Ed piece by Sohrab Ahmari,  “Selling Policy With the Voice of America”,  I received the below the Battered Congress Syndrome by Christina Jeffrey, Ph.D. The two seem to go together as Congress takes up Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

According to Mr. Ahmari, a WSJ editorial page writer based in London, VoA is propagandizing its broadcasts to the Iranian people making it appear there is little or no opposition in the USA to Obama’s deal.  Dr. Jeffrey’s take is below (reprinted with permission).

Battered Congress Syndrome

He lied about bringing us together:

He lies about voter I.D. (everyone on Obamacare has a photo I.D.);

He lied about Obamacare when he said you could keep your doctor;

He lied when he said your premiums would be cheaper;

He lied when he said there wasn't any corruption in the IRS;

He lies when he says more massive immigration will help the economy;

So why doesn't Congress understand that he's lying about his legacy creating the

Iran Deal? Here are the biggest lies in this deal:

1. It won't prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon in the future - it just won't be on his watch;

2. It doesn't cut off "every pathway to a nuclear weapon."

3. It isn't "in line with a tradition of American Leadership." It actually undermines U.S. nonproliferation policy and legitimizes its currently illegal efforts to create a bomb to destroy Israel and who else? Maybe us as well, after all Iran's leaders call for "Death to America."

 Obama has gotten out ahead of Congress making it as irrelevant as possible. He's not the first President to do this and this Congress isn't the first Congress to allow the President to "take the heat." But if  we the people  do not insist Congress perform its Constitutional duties, then it will continue to be Constitutionally irresponsible and we will no longer be a  Republic. Some people do not care and soon a majority will not care because they will have had no experience of living in a Republic.

One can only hope  Congress will indeed do its Constitutional duty and substantially change this anathema of a treaty.
