What if Obamacare regulations were applied to abortion?

Liberals are screaming because they feel that an appeals court ruling that upheld a Texas law requiring abortion clinics to comply with health and safety procedures is unduly burdensome to abortion clinics.

That's too bad!  Because liberals never seem to mind about the burden of regulations when it applies to all other businesses!

But that started me thinking.  What if all the Obamacare regulations were applied to the abortion industry?  Perhaps people wanting abortions would have to deal with the following:

1) An insurance requirement.  A requirement that all people seeking abortions must buy abortion insurance.  If you want an abortion, being uninsured is not an option.

2) A subsidy requirement.  Abortion insurance would be plenty expensive.  Because the government would be setting premiums with redistribution in mind, charging higher premiums for the middle class to subsidize the poor and, of course, illegal aliens.

3) Expansive coverage.  Imagine if you had to buy abortion insurance, and along with it came abortion insurance for your entire family, like it or not, even your husband, even your children (at least, until they are 26 years of age).  And imagine if abortion insurance also required coverage for prostate surgery – even if you didn't want it.  All these requirements would raise the premiums for abortions, without providing much additional benefit in return.

4) Small list of practicioners.  Imagine that in order to keep costs down, only a handful of abortion clinics would accept abortion insurance.  Someone seeking an abortion would have very little choice of where to go.

5) Abortion device tax.  Imagine if there were a tax on the vacuums and drills used by abortionists.  That cost would have to be passed on to abortion consumers in the form of higher premiums.

6) Death panels.  Remember "death panels," which can cut off funding and results in a patient's death?  Imagine if there were abortion death panels, who could do the opposite, cutting off funding for a baby's death if the costs of an abortion were too high.  If the panel vetoed an abortion based on cost, a woman would have no choice but to give birth to her baby!

Liberals wouldn't tolerate such regulations for abortion.  But they insist on it for everything else.  If we can find some way to really regulate some of their favorite subjects – homoeroticism, illegal aliens, environmentalism, or abortion – maybe they will have second thoughts about government regulation.
