Why is Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Beau, being treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center? The younger Biden is not active duty military but in the past has served as a Delaware National Guard officer with a tour as an Army lawyer in Iraq back in 2008-2009. Since that time he has served as Delaware’s attorney general and is now a private practicing attorney.

While we can thank young Biden for his service to his country just how much service does his country owe him? Since when do military hospitals provide specialized care for adult children of national politicians? That has to be the reason he is now in a military hospital, because his past service in the Delaware Guard certainly does not render him eligible to be treated there. He is neither active duty military duty nor retired, so where is the justification for his being treated at taxpayer expense?
