Heads up, Mayor Athas
AT regular Jan LaRue asked us to share this letter sent to Mayor Douglas Athas of Garland, Texas. Sam Houston he ain't.
Dear Mayor Athas:
I’m wondering if anyone has organized a search party since you’ve apparently lost your mind, according to your statements quoted in the Dallas Morning News regarding Pamela Geller:
“Certainly in hindsight, we as a community would be better off if she hadn’t,” Athas said Tuesday. “Her actions put my police officers, my citizens and others at risk. Her program invited an incendiary reaction. She picked my community, which does not support in any shape, passion or form, her ideology.
“But at the end of the day, we did our jobs,” he said. “We protected her freedoms and her life.”
How can you rationally blame Geller, who was exercising her “freedoms,” for the willful acts of terrorists? You’ve just weaponized the “heckler’s veto.”
Following your logic, if a bikini-clad Miss Texas contestant were raped during a pageant at the Culwell Center, it would be her fault and the pageant’s for putting her at risk. Are Islamist terrorists beheading, raping, and burying children alive because they drew pictures of Mohammed with their crayons? These Jihadi savages are their own provocation.
You need to rethink your understanding of the First Amendment and apologize to Geller. Then you should pin a medal on a great Texas police officer.
Sincerely,
Janet LaRue
Round Rock, Texas
Bravo to Jan, and the AT staff would like to volunteer for the search party.
