Hillary's media worries on the Schweizer book
Thomas Lifson posted a blog entry yesterday about Peter Schweizer’s new book, Clinton Cash. In it, Thomas made a persuasive case for the credibility of the author and praised Schweizer’s deals with The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Fox News, giving them exclusive agreements for early access to his research on Hillary Clinton.
There are some significant, encouraging things to consider just in the roster of news agencies taking on the project:
1) The three outlets lie across an ideological spectrum, so none will be immune from accusations of being pro or con re: the Clintons. That increases the likelihood that they will be equally diligent – or nearly so – in honestly vetting and reporting their conclusions on the material. Breaking along ideological lines would only reinforce public perceptions of their political motives.
2) There’s a healthy competitive element in awarding pieces to three news organizations, none of which will want to be seen as unprofessional, incapable, or soft on the subject.
3) The left-leaning outlets must know that their credibility has suffered from years of coddling President Barack Obama, and, at some point, they will seek to restore it, very possibly at Hillary’s expense. The left-leaning orgs may prefer another Democrat anyway. Scuttling her this early would allow a successor more time to prepare.
