Fake 'hunger strike' to force confirmation of Loretta Lynch?
The tactic of going on a hunger strike has been used by protestors around the world for 100 years to call attention to injustice and oppression.
But Al Sharpton and his crew of so-called civil rights activists have taken the honorable and courageous tactic of denying oneself sustenance – to personally suffer for a cause – and thrown it in the gutter.
Sharpton, et al. are upset that the Senate is taking so long to confirm Attorney General Eric Holder's replacement, Loretta Lynch. To speed up the process, the activists are planning a fake "hunger strike" where no one goes hungry or suffers much more than an inconvenience.
The advocacy group founded by the Rev. Al Sharpton, along with female civil-rights leaders, are planning the hunger strike, in which groups of fasters will alternate days abstaining from food until Lynch is confirmed to replace Eric Holder at the Justice Department. Dubbed “Confirm Loretta Lynch Fast,” the new tactic is designed in the mold of actions by civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi and Cesar Chavez, organizers said.
Nonsense. The fake hunger strike is in the "mold of actions" of Laurel and Hardy.
“As long as the Senate refuses to take fifteen minutes to confirm someone for Attorney General that they have already confirmed twice for U.S. Attorney,” National Action Network and its allies “will do everything in our power to draw attention to this completely unfair and unnecessary delay to vote to confirm Loretta Lynch,” Sharpton, who founded NAN, said in a statement Wednesday.
The group’s executive director, Janaye Ingram, added: “We stand with Loretta Lynch and are so in support of this cause that we are willing to sacrifice our daily meals to impress upon the U.S. Senate that it’s time to call a vote.”
A "sacrifice" to skip a couple of meals? Sheesh.

No doubt the Democratic party applauds the use of a tactic that courageous men and women around the world have used to effect social and political change. Except there is no high-minded purpose to this fake hunger strike. It is designed solely and exclusively as a partisan political tactic. The activists are an arm of the Democratic Party and have hijacked the hunger strike to make a political point.
The fake hunger strike cheapens and dilutes the efforts of real political activists around the world, including prisoners of conscience in Cuba, who are fighting for freedom and democracy. The cynicism of Al Sharpton and others who would use the same tactic in a political brawl is astounding.
