Castro apologizes to Obama for inheriting 'hostile relationship' with Cuba
This is why pro-American presidents don't meet with commie thugs like Raul Castro.Sparing President Obama the humiliation of apologizing for our being beastly to the Cuban regime for so long, Castro made Obama's apology for him.
Cuban President Raúl Castro on Saturday expressed remorse that President Obama had inherited the hostile relationship between Cuba and the U.S. during his time in office.The Lebanon Daily Star reported that the Communist leader apologized to Obama during the seventh Summit of the Americas in Panama City. He also absolved the president of having any role in increasing tensions between the two nations during his remarks.“I apologize to President Obama and the others here,” Castro told an assembly of Latin and North American leaders.“I apologize to him because President Obama has no responsibility for this,” he continued, citing the standoff between Cuba and the U.S., which has lasted for over half a century.Castro added his government perceives many past American leaders poorly for their treatment of the island nation. The foreign leader said he did not list Obama among their ranks.“I have told President Obama that I get very emotional talking about the revolution,” Castro said.“In my opinion, President Obama is an honest man,” he added.President Obama declared diplomatic progress between the two nations a “turning point” for the region during his own remarks Saturday. He added that meeting Castro was a “historic occasion” for both countries.“I’m not interested in having battles that frankly started before I was born,” Obama said. “The Cold War’s been over for a long time.”
What a cynical, self-serving thing to say. Why should Castro be sorry except to make the point that the US has opposed Cuban designs in the hemisphere for more than 50 years and prevented the dictator Fidel Castro from exporting his noxious idea of revolution.
The "standoff" between the US and Cuba did not take place in a vacuum. Cuba constantly tried to undermine legitimate governments in the region friendly to the US by funding terrorist rebels to destabilize those governments. Most of them were not models of democracy, but replacing them with a Castro style Communist dictatorship was a better alternative?
And the hostility went both ways. The Castro government shot down planes flown by US citizens, kidnapped and held for no good cause Americans, sent troops to Africa to fight alongside genocideal maniacs, and now harbors fugitives from American justice - including several murderers.
Obama and Castro met in an "historic" meeting last night, as the wheels of diplomacy churn toward normalizing relations. Meanwhile, the dictator plans on keeping an iron grip on Cuban politics, arresting those who dare speak against him. In short, normalizing relations with Cuba brings the US nothing of value while giving Cuba everything it wants.
