Jeb Bush's immigration 'act of love'
Remember when Jeb Bush said illegal immigration is an "act of love"? At the time I heard it, I thought it was odd. You could say that immigrants are coming here in search of jobs, or a better life, even thought they are breaking the law in doing so (which doesn't justify their actions, but it explains motivations). But instead, Jeb chose the odd phrase "an act of love."
It didn't really make sense to me until just now, when the media is starting to inundate us with stories about Columba Bush, Jeb's wife. Jeb fell in love with and married Columba, a Mexican immigrant. That was Jeb's "act of love."
I suspect that the reason Jeb wants to legalize all the illegal aliens may be because the vast majority of them are Hispanic, and Jeb is physically attracted to Hispanic women. I think he may be letting his personal feelings of attraction dictate what he thinks should be our immigration policy.
But I don't think lust should dictate policy. If Jeb had fallen in love with a Swedish lady or an American Caucasian lady, I think his policy on amnesty might be different. I don't think that Jeb Bush's choice in lover should be the emotional rationale for legalizing millions of people who came here and broke the law.
