Unrandom acts of terrorism
As Rick Moran pointed out here yesterday, in an interview with the adoring Matthew Yglesias, President Barack Obama (D) believes the media overstates the threat of terrorism because of that media adage, "if it bleeds, it leads" rather than concentrate on less gory, but much more important, issues such as poverty (which he claims to have lowered) or climate change (which isn't happening).
Look, the point is this: my first job is to protect the American people. It is entirely legitimate for the American people to be deeply concerned when you've got a bunch of violent, vicious zealots who behead people or randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris. We devote enormous resources to that, and it is right and appropriate for us to be vigilant and aggressive in trying to deal with that — the same way a big city mayor's got to cut the crime rate down if he wants that city to thrive. But we also have to attend to a lot of other issues, and we've got to make sure we're right-sizing our approach so that what we do isn't counterproductive. I would argue that our invasion of Iraq was counterproductive to the goal of keeping our country safe.
Let us count the errors in just those few sentences alone; the numbers in the entire interview are very high but Yglesias doesn't seem to notice; doesn't know that. Actually the interview is revealingly full of inaccuracies and opaqueness with very little fact and/or truth.
No, Obama's first job isn't "to protect the American people," it is to enforce the Constitution. After all, Obama was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, a "Constitutional scholar" and a "respected professor of Constitutional law at the University of Chicago." He should know this, but he doesn't.
And what about that "bunch of folks" randomly shot in a Paris deli by "a bunch of violent, vicious zealots?" Were the former just some minor collateral damage as the violent, vicious zealots went about their violent, vicious business? Uhm, no. The "bunch of folks" victims were Jews shopping for kosher (French spelling is cacher) food - food prepared according to biblically mandated, rabbinically interpreted laws in Hyper Cacher, (Kosher Market) in preparation for celebrating the Jewish Sabbath. They were deliberately--not randomly--targeted and killed as they went about their innocent business by "a violent, vicious zealot" who was a Muslim acting under the imperative of Islamic beliefs and law.
But once again, in total cognitive dissonance, total denial, Obama couldn't say the accurate "Muslim violent, vicious zealots who behead people who are not Muslim or deliberately shoot Jews in a Jewish store in Paris all in the name of Islam" just as he can't admit Muslims deliberately crashed planes in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in the fields of Pennsylvania in the name of Islam on September 11, 2001 or a Muslim psychiatrist slaughtered 12 Armed Forces personnel and injured more while shouting "allahu akbar," the Muslim god is greater in the name of Islam! He termed the latter incident "workplace violence."
To admit the truth would undermine Obama's foundational view of the world and all that flows from it.
