Mary Landrieu accuses her constituents of being racist and sexist
Never regarded as the brightest bulb in the Senate chandelier, Mary Landrieu’s desperation over her re-election chances has caused her to do something truly stupid: explain-away her unpopularity by calling her constituents racist for disliking President Obama and sexist for not supporting her. In an on-the-street interview with NBC, she said (via the Free Beacon):
Speaking with NBC’s Chuck Todd, Landrieu said, “I’ll be very, very honest with you. The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans.”
Pointing to herself Landrieu continued, “It’s not always been a good place for women to present ourselves. It’s more of a conservative place.”
Southerners are justifiably sick and tired of being demonized as slack-jawed, backward racists, particularly given the fact that the South has done a much better job of healing race relations than the rest of the country. The South is also the most economically dynamic region of the country, and the fastest-growing in population.
For one of their own to explain away her personal unpopularity, not mentioning her support for Obamacare, for instance, is aggravating.
Landrieu has slit her own throat.
