Dem popularity hits 20 year low

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that the popularity of Democrats in Congress has fallen off a cliff with fully 67% of likely voters disapproving of the job they're doing. Only 30% approve.

Washington Times:

Democrats in Congress have pretty much bottomed out with the American people in terms of popularity, nosediving to 20-year lows in the most recent Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Fully 67 percent said they didn’t like what Democrats in Congress were doing, Newsmax said.

Only 30 percent actually approved — and those dismal numbers follow another Washington Post-ABC News poll that showed the overall Democratic Party is hitting a 30-year low with the American people, Newsmax said.

Republicans aren’t that popular, either. But the numbers show that approval ratings for the GOP are leveling out a bit, and Newsmax reported that the gap between Republicans’ disapproval numbers and those of the Democrats’ is narrowing.

Democrats, meanwhile, face another poll hit — this time, with black voters. The numbers reveal that the Democratic Party is losing favor with this voting block, and roughly 47 percent now disapprove of the job they’re doing.

In the aggregate, Congress is very unpopular. But voters vote for people, and individual incumbents are generally well liked by their constituents. Thus has it always been so, and there's no sign it's going to change anytime soon.

But there are a lot of angry voters out there who may be in a message-sending mood. Obama's popularity is in the tank at 40% and at least some of those Senate races may tip as a result of the voter wanting to deliver a love note to Obama - we'd love it if Republicans were in charge.
