Obama: Illegal minors can't stay
President Obama told Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in a phone call on Thursday that illegal aliens currently flooding across the border will not be able to stay in the US - including the children.
President Obama told his Mexican counterpart in a phone call Thursday that immigrants crossing into the U.S. illegally won’t qualify for legalized status or deferred deportation, including children.
The White House said Mr. Obama and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto discussed “a regional strategy” to address the surge of unaccompanied children coming from Central America, through Mexico, to the U.S.
With thousands of children trying to enter the U.S. illegally in recent months, Vice President Joseph R. Biden will visit Guatemala on Friday.
Mr. Biden will warn officials and parents that illegal immigration is dangerous and that youth won’t be allowed to stay in the U.S.
The administration says the new influx of child immigrants is due to rampant poverty and violence in countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
Critics of the administration, and people immigrating illegally, say the immigrants are drawn by the administration’s policies, including Mr. Obama’s program of “deferred action” on deporting youth.
In the phone conversation, Mr. Obama “welcomed the opportunity to work in close cooperation with Mexico to develop concrete proposals to address the root causes of unlawful migration from Central America,” the White House said.

He also discussed the two nations’ “shared responsibility for promoting security in both countries and in the region.”
What in God's name took him so long? The entire southern border has been inundated with tens of thousands of illegal alien minors for months - months - and he's just now getting around to casually discussing the issue with the Mexican president over the phone?
As with any other crisis in this man's presidency, there appears to be a "wait and hope for the best" attitude. In this case, all kinds of ulterior motives can be imagined, including the most obvious one; creating a crisis on the border might spur Congress to pass his immigration bill.
Indeed, I find it significant that it wasn't until Republican governors in Arizona and Texas began to take matters into their own hands that Obama finally decided to make a move to quell the flood.
Next question: How do we deport 40,000 kids sitting in detention centers? The countries involved - Mexico, Guatamala, and Honduras for the most part - have to be willing to accept the illegals back into their countries. Perhaps that's what Joe Biden is going to be doing in Guatamala. One thing is sure - they can't return the same way they came, which was paying exorbitant amounts of money to coyotes to transport the kids a couple of thousand miles through Mexico to the border. We must be responsible in getting these kids home safely. How do we do that without cooperation from their host countries?
When the president says the illegals can't stay, it is unknown exactly what he means. Therefore, we can reasonably assume that he really doesn't mean it. Illegal immigration advocates will work tirelessly to see to it that the majority of these kids who came north to join their illegal parents will be reunited with them in America. That's the easy way out and President Obama is likely to take it.
