Poor Mary Landrieu
Break out the world's smallest violin to play a tune of sympathy for poor Senator Mary Landrieu (D - LA). It seems the senator, up for re-election in 2014 is embarrassed by our country when visiting Europe. Daniel Halper of the Weekly Standard writes:
Democratic senator Mary Landrieu says she's embarrassed to go to places in Europe like France and Spain because some Americans do not have health insurance. Landrieu, who is up for reelection in 2014, represents the state of Louisiana.
"People are scared when they're sick, and they're much stronger when they're well," Landrieu said a
t a Friday lunch, according to the American Press. "It's embarrassing to me to go to places like France and Spain ... and their workers all manage to have health insurance that can't be taken away."
I have never been impressed with Sen. Landrieu's intelligence, and this comment seals the deal on her actually being a bit stupid. Telling Southern voters that you are embarrassed when you visit France is not exactly a vote-getter.
Landrieu is from one Louisiana's most famous political families (her father Moon was mayor of New Orleans and Secretary of HUD and her brother Mitch is the current mayor of New Orleans). She may be able to ride out this gaffe, but it will stand as a monument to her stupidity.
