Could Iran become a nuclear superpower?
There is only one news story that you must read this morning. It's not the usual cirque de jour that our chattering political class so enjoys foisting upon the American public. The following 143 words should put into perspective the irrational folly and utter stupidity of the Obama Administration's foreign policy of "see no evil" appeasement and submission.
From the jpost.com:
Iran is not looking for just a few nuclear bombs "in the basement," but rather to produce dozens each year, International Relations Minister Yuval Steinitz said Tuesday.
Steinitz, who also holds the strategic and intelligence affairs portfolios, told a security conference in Zichron Ya'acov that Iran's nuclear industry was "many times larger than that of either North Korea or Pakistan."
He described the Iranian nuclear industry as a "ramified" one - designed "not to produce a few bombs, but to produce fissionable material for dozens and hundreds of nuclear bombs." The issue, he said, is not only of Iran becoming a nuclear state, but rather becoming a "nuclear superpower."
According to Steinitz, the Natanz nuclear facility currently has about 12,000 centrifuges, with plans to reach 54,000 and the ability to enrich enough uranium to produce between 20 to 30 atomic bombs a year.
Just so we all understand the geographic realities of the State of Israel, it would only take a dozen nuclear weapons, imprecisely delivered, to obliterate the civilian population centers of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.
So what does Iran plan to do with hundreds of nuclear bombs? Most likely, blackmail Saudi Arabia and the oil producing kingdoms to accept de facto Iranian rule. Western Europe would soon follow in capitulating to Iranian demands, as the reality of London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Oslo and Madrid becoming smoking holes would no longer be an abstract concept. Only Russia would be spared on the European continent.
And what of the Great Satan, the United States of America? Obama would continue to hope that we would be consumed last by the Iranian nuclear fires. Doubtless, Iran would simply give the weapons to Al- Qaeda or Hezbollah for delivery into the United States. Our military and Homeland Security might nab dozens of smuggled bombs en route, but some would get through and be used for blackmail after few small American cities are vaporized as to set a proper example.
We know that Israel clearly sees the existential threat to its existence; unlike Obama and this Administration who still believes that Iranian nuclear proliferation can be stopped through appeasement and economic sanctions.
So, America continues to slumber in the blissful distractions of scandal, sports, celebrity, and consumerism.
Could we awaken in few years to find that a radical Islamic Caliphate holds the destiny of the planet and our children's lives in its already blood soaked hands?
