Buying voters Obama style
Stand back Obamaphone voters.Your fearless leader has come up with a new way to use money the government has to borrow, and that will be paid for by our children, to bribe voters and help bring America 4 more years of the Obama "recovery."
Because Obama was unwilling to support a budget compromise that would reduce the deficit, much less the debt, sequestration will take place in January. Sequestration means a huge across the board cut in defense spending, along with all other discretionary spending.
Back in 2007 Obama said
For too long, employers have failed to notify workers that they're about to lose their jobs due to mass layoffs or plant closings even though notice is required by the WARN Act,
The least employers can do when they're anticipating layoffs is to let workers know they're going to be out of a job and a paycheck with enough time to plan for their future.
But in August 2012 Obama's administration said that defense contractors do not have to follow the WARN Act because even though sequestration is part of the law it is not a "reasonably foreseeable" event. Perhaps because their layoffs are the result of Obama's unwillingness to work with Congress to reduce the deficit Obama thinks that sequestration is an act of god.
The reason Obama wants to throw these workers under the bus is not just that they are generally not unionized but because the layoff warnings would be sent out right before the election on Nov 2. Obama doesn't want hundreds of thousands of workers to realize that they may be out of work in January.
Of course the companies were not too thrilled about this. They don't want to alienate a big customer--the DoD-- but at the same time they both care about their workers and about the huge lawsuits that those workers could file against them.
While Obama wants to work around Congress and thinks it's ok to not enforce laws he doesn't like, such as DOMA, he has yet to convince the courts that the Administration can just declare random laws, like the WARN Act, to be in effect only when it helps Obama. Though given four more years he may achieve that objective.
Companies that clearly violated the WARN act will be at the receiving end of numerous, and expensive, lawsuits.
Solyndra, another Obama success story, didn't warn it's employees and just told them to get out of the office one day with little or no warning. Those employee's sued because Solyndra had violated the WARN Act and Solyndra had to pay them $3.5M--taking money out of the pockets of the Obama supporters who invested in Solyndra. If Solyndra wasn't bankrupt the payout would have been more like $15.1M.
Leading defense contractors know that the courts are not going to let them off if they listen to the Obama administration and intentionally violate the WARN Act that Obama used to be so fond of.
To try and buy those defense contractors off Obama has now said that the government will pick up the legal fees that will result from violating the WARN Act.
This is perhaps the perfect example of Obama's lawlessness and true priorities; using borrowed taxpayer money to pay companies to break the law at the expense of American workers in order to help ensure that Obama gets reelected.
The losers of course will include the taxpayers who will eventually have to pay the bill for helping Obama's campaign and the workers who will suddenly be without jobs in January.
The other losers will be all Americans who believe in the rule of law, not politicians, and who don't want Washington to become Chicago on the Potomac.
