The Shame of the Democrats

The Democrats are dragging national politics into the gutter. Harry Reid's outrageous charges about Mitt Romney's income taxes are demeaning the office of Majority Leader of the Senate, and the Senate itself.  What must it be like for Sen. Dianne Feinstein, still smarting from the rebukes she received after telling the truth about the intelligence leaks from the White House? She will bite her toungue as the institution of the Senate suffers the blow of its Leader's degradation of the political culture.

The Democrats' shame has already been documented in their own voice -- in a smear campaign that preceded the Mitt Romney libel by only a few weeks. Sheldon Adelson is the target of outrageous smear and innuendo for his crime of lavishly supporting the cause of Israel's survival and conservative politicians. The campaign fundraising arm of Congressional Democrats bungled their smear so badly, they have had to grovel and retract what they alleged about Adelson in press releases. Anna Palmer and John Bresnahan write in Politico:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued a public apology Thursday afternoon to billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson for charging that the Republican mega donor was tied to the Chinese mob and a prostitution ring.

"In press statements issued on June 29 and July 2, 2012, the DCCC made unsubstantiated allegations that attacked Sheldon Adelson, a supporter of the opposing party. This was wrong. The statements were untrue and unfair and we retract them," the DCCC wrote. "The DCCC extends its sincere apology to Mr. Adelson and his family for any injury we have caused."

The statement is an attempt by the Democratic party committee to try and make a potential defamation lawsuit go away.

So we have it on the record that official Democrat arms make false charges about their enemies.

Harry Reid is now making shameful false charges about Mitt Romney, obviously personal and intended to emotionally wound Mitt Romney.  These two smears ought to be linked together in the media relentlessly for they demonstrate a sick political obsession.  But of course the partisans who dominate the institutional media will give little or no attention to the DCCC's grovel.

This blog is a rewritten and re-titled version of a blog that originally appeared late 8/2, titled, "Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee humiliated, apologizes to Adelson."
