Sen. Cornyn Calls for Holder's Resignation
Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn called for Attorney General Eric Holder's resignation in a Senate Judiciary hearing on Tuesday for his part in the Fast and Furious scandal. Holder, who appears to relish his role in the hot seat lately, proved once again his Department of Justice represents Obama, not the people.
Cornyn: "It is more with sorrow than regret and anger that I would say that you leave me no alternative, than to join those who call upon you to resign your office," the Texas Republican said.
"Americans deserve an attorney general who will be honest with them. They deserve an attorney general who will uphold the basic standards of political independence and accountability. You have proven time and time again, sadly, that you're unwilling to do so. I'm afraid we have come to an impasse... you have violated the public trust, in my view."
Holder: With all due respect, there is so much factually wrong with the premises you started your statement with...I don't have any intention of resigning. I heard the White House press officer say yesterday that the president has absolute confidence in me. I don't have any reason to believe that in fact is not the case.
Obama's confidence might stem from the fact the AG's number three at Justice, Tony West, could be next in line to replace his boss should Holder step down. An opening at Justice has come about with Assistant Attorney General Robert Weich resigning his post, only days before a vote on contempt charges for Holder takes place.
Before coming to the Justice Department Tony West and his firm took on some of the most radical causes for America's enemies. However, West was confirmed by the Senate in an 82-4 vote in 2009 as assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division at DOJ despite being part of the American Taliban John Walker Lindh's defense team.
In addition to his defense of Taliban terrorists, West was co-chairman of Obama's campaign in 2008 raising $65 million in California. His sister-in-law Kamala Harris, Attorney General of California, has been called "the female Obama" and has been seen in multiple photo-ops with the President.
As San Francisco District Attorney she showed her radical roots in 2004 when she made good on her promise to "never charge the death penalty'' by pulling the option off the table in the case against the man who killed San Francisco Police Officer Isaac Espinoza.
Maya Harris, Kamala's sister, and wife of Tony West, is another social justice radical. Mrs. Tony West is currently vice-president for the Ford Foundation's Democracy, Rights and Justice programs in New York City.
In February 2012 Holder appointed Tony West to replace Thomas Perrelli as Associate Attorney General, the third highest office at Justice.
Whistleblower and former Justice official J. Christian Adams weighed in on West's 2012 appointment.
The most dangerous thing is that West is overseeing Gitmo policy. It's not that he's just some guy at the Justice Department licking envelopes.
Holder and Obama choose their radicals well; each just a clone of the next. But the stench of so many in one place has overpowered frustrated politicians who are calling for the attorney general's resignation.
Somewhere at some time someone high up approved Fast and Furious. And as much as the administration would like the whole affair to go away, the murder of Brian Terry in December 2010 makes that impossible.
Obama may have confidence in a serial liar but Americans do not.
