Inter-religious dialogue, anyone?

From a May 4 news item at CatholicCulture.org:

A senior Al-Qaeda operative [Adam Yahiye Gadahn] advised Osama bin Laden in January 2011 that Irish Catholics-and Catholics in general-are ripe for conversion to Islam, according to a letter released on the first anniversary of bin Laden's death....

Reflecting on Catholicism, Gadahn said that 'their public in general, these days, is more sympathetic and understanding of the Muslims, than other Protestant and Orthodox Christians,' though he added that 'I also do not deny the animosity of the Pope and other church heads to Islam and Muslims'....

'The conclusion is that, in general, the Catholics are a fertile ground for call of God and to persuade them about the just case of the Mujahidin, particularly after the rage expanding against the mother church [Vatican] as a result of its scandals and policies refused by many of its public. But the attacks on the Christians in Iraq, like the Baghdad attack and what took place earlier in Mosul and others, do not help us to convey the message,' said Gadahn.

You don't say. Not to mention the many other attacks and killings of Christians at the hands of Islamists over the years.

As much as I hate to admit it, I do think Gadahn has a point in regard to the average Catholic in the pew (i.e. the Obama-supporting Catholic who embraces liberalism more than Catholic teaching) having an overly-favorable view of Islam. After all, political correctness is sacred among modernist Catholics.

Catholics would do well to read Catholic-convert-from-Islam Daniel Ali's and Robert Spencer's book Inside Islam: A Guide for Catholics, which contains the following passage:

When the Muslim declares that Islam is a religion of peace, he is either ignorant of the Koran or is extending this 'peace' only to those within the Muslim community, without telling you that is the way he means it. According to the Koran, 'Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah. Those who follow him are merciful to one another, but ruthless to unbelievers' (Sura 48:29). Muslims are to greet and treat other fellow Muslims in a manner promoting peace within the Umma, or worldwide Muslim brotherhood. In Islam, there exists no true concept of peace between the nonbeliever and the devout Muslim. Peace can only exist for those who follow Islam. (Source)
