The real political spectrum
When I was growing up, a teacher frequently instructed the class to exercise moderation in our lives. In my little fish bowl, this common sense advice seemed like it was applied by people in all walks of life, and was echoed in the politics of the day by the mainstream media (MSM). When liberal policies had a chance to make it through Congress the MSM would refer to conservatives to as right wing extremists, and admonish conservative viewers to be more moderate to pass a bill. This process still works today -- however, it's effectiveness is being reduced by a more engaged citizenry. Now, because of a more learned analysis it's apparent that the MSM's political spectrum and plea for moderation are socialist subterfuges.
The political spectrum of the MSM is shown in Figure 1, with moderates taking the reasonable position between the ideologies of liberalism and conservatism. In my younger days I confess that this moderate position seemed like the logical choice.
However, Figure 1 presents the distorted view created by our MSM. Since the 1960s, the MSM has conducted a stealth campaign advocating socialism beginning with Walter Cronkite, the CBS News anchorman nicknamed "The most trusted man in America." In 1999, Cronkite admitted he was a lifelong advocate of a New World Order based upon governance by the UN. When he received the Norman Cousins Global Governance Award for his lifelong advocacy he regaled the crowd with a story about being offered a job as a lobbyist for the World Federalists in the early 1960s. It's now painfully clear that Cronkite and his ilk were, and are, stealth advocates for a global UN socialist government. For decades the MSM has deceived the public, endorsed liberal policies like Obamacare, and called conservatives right wing extremists. (Have you ever heard the MSM utter the phrase "left wing extremist?") But the public is finally awakening.
If we view the entire political spectrum (Figure 2), we can see that when conservatives compromise they occupy a liberal position.
Decades of compromising has allowed liberals to nudge their goal-posts even further to the left, confident that they can hold their position because the MSM will eventually force conservatives to the left. Predictably, after decades of leftward migration, the net result has been the most liberal government in US history. (There are 76 members of Congress who are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, a socialist organization founded in 1991, by Senator Bernie Sanders. That is 14% of Congress!)
Other than ObamaCare, can you recall a year when a bill was passed through Congress without anyone reading it? ObamaCare was the epitome of raw government power, obliterating all opposition and moderation (i.e. 100% socialism).
The debt deal is another example. While the liberals adhered to their ideological positions, the MSM frightened our senior citizens then demanded the conservatives compromise to get the deal done. At this point, the Republicans abandoned their alleged core principles and moved left to achieve a compromise, or as it is more commonly known amongst taxpayers, their sellout position. (There is a theory that some conservative politicians are motivated to compromise by believing that if they compromise the MSM will brand them as mavericks, thus, increasing their chances of getting their mugs on TV with the Sunday pundits. For examples of this RINO strategy perform an Internet search for "John McCain immigration," or "Mitch McConnell debt deal.")
As a young unsophisticated conservative, my moderate votes unwittingly aided the leftward migration of America, but I am hoping to make amends for my naiveté before it is too late. The fact is, I remain a moderate voter, but after analyzing the political spectrum I realize that the true political moderates are Conservatives. Liberalism is "socialism light," and is a negative force for Liberty. To save America we need to find and elect conservatives, people who have the backbone to maintain their conservative principles regardless of the spin from the MSM and party leaders. The only difference between liberals and compromising conservatives is that compromising conservatives destroy America at a slower pace.
