OBL: deadly yes; sophisticated, not even close
What is the inarguable truth coming out of the video and still photography coverage of the bin Laden raid is that this saint of radical Islam, Osama bin Laden, must have taken vows of poverty and denial. C'mon, the shots of that so-called million-dollar compound show a Medieval zealot living under Seventh Century conditions with incredibly basic Twenty-First century comforts and communications. I'm sorry, but here I've been fed all this crap for ten-plus years that this scion of a super-wealthy Saudi family has been masterminding and financially underwriting the deadly activities of a world-wide terrorist network while luxuriating in the ambience such wealth can buy.
Now come the pictures taken within the High Command bunker and what I and the rest of the world see is this feeble, pathetic seeker of publicity, sitting in a room that exemplifies Third-World poverty, eagerly punching the buttons of his TV remote, holding it like a summoner of Djinns, hunting for news images of himself. For the Obama administration to put out such obvious B.S. about UBL living in comfort and luxury in a million-dollar compound with a whiz-bang communications network at his fingertips, enabling him to be the global mastermind of the world's most feared terrorist network is laughable at best.
Look at the pictures, folks. You are seeing the beast in his lair and neither the beast nor the lair appears the least bit what we have been led to believe is greatest threat to world safety. I'm not saying that I don't believe in radical Islamic terrorism; after all, they managed to kill almost 3,000 Americans on native soil. The threat is real; what isn't is the image of the threat that our government has been feeding us for years. Face it, Bubba, you've been propagandized, led down the primrose path, duped, fed a crock of you know what, made to believe that we are facing a shrewd, sophisticated network availing themselves of all the world's most sophisticated, cutting-edge technology.
Cut to that video of the Supreme Leader of that evil network sitting in a hovel clicking the remote for a 19 inch black and white television, and tell me you can continue to believe that these terrorists are the technological sophisticates, international movers and shakers that our government has portrayed. If this pathetic, button-pushing man was the mastermind of the world-wide Al Qaeda network, then the obvious conclusion is that they were very poorly led.
Our government owes it to us to accurately inform us of the threats we face. That they so sensationalize the capabilities of our enemies serves no good purpose other than to elevate fear and insecurity in the populace. Tell us the truth; we can handle it and make the requisite decisions. Don't exaggerate the threat these primitives present.
Deadly, yes; sophisticated, not even close.
