We're saved! Congress, President avoid shutdown with 11th hour deal

I'd like to summon up some outrage about his, but to tell the truth, my give a damn's busted.

They are calling the budget deal "historic" because they cut $38 billion from a $3.8 trillion budget running a $1.6 trillion deficit. The disconnect from reality that both parties are showing should be immortalized in statue by Dali or some other follower of the surrealist school of art. It really is that ridiculous and if they think they are fooling anybody, they are sadly mistaken.

First comes a 6 day stop gap measure that doesn't cut anything. Then the outlines of the $38 billion in cuts takes over in the continuing resolution that will fund the government until September 30. The Washington Examiner:

Just around midnight, House and Senate approved a six-day "bridge" bill that will keep the government operating while they draft bipartisan legislation to fund the government for the final six months of the fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.

The deal came after days of bickering and political posturing by both parties, with but sides refusing to compromise and the midnight deadline that would have sparked a shutdown approaching.

But ultimately, Democratic and Republican leaders feared a government shutdown would damage them politically, with polls showing voters opposed to a work stoppage but evenly divided over which party would be to blame for it.

"This has been a long process and it has not been an easy process," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after the deal was reached. "Both sides had to make tough choices but tough choices is what this job is all about."

I'm absolutely sure that strangling the Majority Leader is against the law. But how about that fine old American tradition of tar and feathering charlatans, con men, and congressmen (but I repeat myself)? Anyone who believes cutting 2.5% of the budget deficit is a "tough choice" should be unceremoniously dunked in a barrel of tar and sprinkled with goose feathers. Riding the perp out of town on a rail is optional.

I regret to inform you that your Congress has lost its collective mind.
