Obama's distortion of Passover
The seminal Jewish holiday of Passover, which began Monday night, celebrates and remembers the sufferings of the Jews under slavery in ancient Egypt and Moshe's (Moses in English) work, through God, (Moshe is never mentioned) to free his people.
This story is well known, what is not as well known is that while the Hebrews wanted to to be free from bondage and slavery in Egypt they wanted the freedom to serve God, not the hedonism that is associated with free to do whatever. The Hebrew month in which Passover occurs is the first month of the Jewish year for in their freedom the Jews began anew.
An important component of remembering is the multi sensory celebratory reading and reenactment of the story of leaving Egypt, which contains the command "In every generation it must as if each Jew personally left Egypt for freedom."
And so it is jarring, not to mention demeaning to Jews and their history, their sense of self, when President Barack Obama (D) trivializing and distorting the importance of the occasion,
says its message is reflected in Muslim uprisings. In his annual message, prior to his third straight participation in the Passover Seder, President Obama stated, "The story of Passover...instructs each generation to remember its past, while appreciating the beauty of freedom and the responsibility it entails. This year that ancient instruction is reflected in the daily headlines as we see modern stories of social transformation and liberation unfolding in the Middle East and North Africa."
NO! The signs emerging from "the modern stories of social transformation and liberation unfolding in the Middle East and North Africa" seem to foretell a new social transformation based on hatred against the other, with subjugation, not liberation, to a fanatical form of Islam. There is no comparison to Passover!
