Wikileaks documents show an administration in chaos
The WikiLeaks disclosure of classified American documents is certainly a serious issue of treasonous proportions endangering American lives and requiring prosecution of the principals to the fullest extent of the law. However, the damage has been done and it is pointless to ignore the insight they provide into a chaotic State Department operation.
For example, we learn that Hillary Clinton directed diplomats to conduct a spying operation on their foreign counterparts in an effort to collect embarrassing information to be used as leverage in future negotiations. To be fair, the program was initiated by Condoleezza Rice, but Mrs. Clinton continued the program upon taking office instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to close it down.
Another interesting item revealed is the fact that the Middle East is more worried about Iran's ability to acquire nuclear weapons and destabilize the region as they are of anything Israel is doing. The Obama administration continues to play down the seriousness of the Iranian situation to the consternation of most Americans who rightly worry about this rogue threat. Having suffered through the attacks of 9/11, we are thankful the Muslim attackers did not possess nuclear weapons and continue to fear they will acquire them for use against us in the future.
These documents confirm that our Afghanistani and Pakistani partners in the War on Terror are actively working against us by supporting the Muslim terrorists we are fighting. Americans suspected this already, and now we have confirmation.
On a positive note, we learn that China feels it can do little to control North Korea, thus lowering our estimation of its influence in Asia and making it a lot less frightening in the grand scheme of things. If China can't control the nuisance next door that threatens their prosperous relationship with America, then what can they do other than demand more of our technology, jobs, and wealth which we happily hand over in the mistaken belief that they are our friends.
We see a lot of double dealing by world leaders and some embarrassing opinions, but we also see an administration whose foreign policy can at best be described as chaotic, and at worst is downright hostile to American interests around the world. These Keystone Kops are no longer able to hide their flaws behind the failsafe veil of classified information. Many of the suspicions we've had about the Obama administration's foreign policy have now been confirmed by this egregious document dump.
This disclosure is a serious situation whose principals deserve the harshest punishment, but the information revealed also points to others who have plenty to answer for.
