State regulators across the country have been approving requests from telecommunications companies asking permission to stop printing these residential directories according to this latest report from AP. Nowadays most people use the internet to look up numbers they need; more people have no landlines, relying only on cell phones which are not listed further diminishing the published directory's usefulness.
Whole forests thank modern technology for saving their lives.
