Winslow Sargeant and Obama's SBA agenda
On Friday the White House announced four recess appointees to key positions in the Obama regime, the official press release missed a few important details. Maria del Carmen Aponte was appointed Ambassador to El Salvador in spite of her past romantic involvement with a Cuban spy and Richard Sorian was tapped to become the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at Health and Human Services in another coup for the NGLCC and their Presidential Appointments Project which helps recruit LGBT candidates for the Obama regime.
Tucked in between Aponte and Sorian was Winslow Sargeant the new Chief Counsel of Advocacy for the Small Business Administration. According to the White House press release, Sargeant is “currently a Managing Director in the technology practice at Venture Investors, where he works with entrepreneurs to create innovative companies in underserved communities.” Sargeant holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and based upon the information contained in the White House press release he would seem to be an excellent choice.
The question remains as to why Sargeant‘s nomination had been held up in the senate, necessitating a recess appoint by Mr. Obama. I did a little research on Winslow Sargeant and discovered a fascinating article by Lloyd Chapman that appeared in the Huffington Post (of all places) on June 11, 2009.
President Obama is going to support legislation and policy that will allow the venture capital industry to dominate all federal small business contracting programs including those for women and minorities. Billions of dollars in federal contracts designated for legitimate small businesses will be diverted to some of the nation’s wealthiest venture capitalists and some of the largest venture capital firms in the country. He will also pass legislation to exempt venture capitalists from capital gains tax on the profit they make from the contracts. Millions of hardworking middle class firms will be negatively impacted, thousands of firms will be forced to close their doors, and countless jobs will be lost.It is no coincidence that President Obama has appointed wealthy venture capitalists Karen Mills and Winslow Sargeant to fill the top two spots at the Small Business Administration (SBA). Both Mills and Sargeant were major contributors to Obama’s campaign. They have also been vocal advocates of changes in federal policy that would allow federal small business contracts to be diverted to firms controlled by venture capitalists.
Small business advocate Lloyd Chapman “worked very hard to get President Obama elected,” but quickly learned that he (along with a majority of the people) had been deceived. Chapman came to realize (a little too late) that BHO is just another self serving politician out to push his own greedy agenda.
The money the venture capital industry gave members of Congress and President Obama is an investment for them. Their plan is to take over the SBA, and federal small business contracting programs as a means of collecting billions of dollars in federal contracts. So far it’s working.[…]This is not some rinky-dink story. We are talking about $140 billion a year in government contracts. This is also a story of how a man most Americans thought was going to rescue all of us from “business as usual in Washington,” is planning on selling federal small business programs to the highest bidder. This time the highest bidder happens to be the NVCA and the rest of the venture capital industry.
Is it any wonder that Sargeant’s nomination was held up for the past year and that BHO finally resorted to a recess appointment to install his operative at the SBA. Don’t you just love those Friday White House press releases? How about a special “shout out” to Barry for suggesting that those of us on the right occasionally read the Huffington Post instead of getting all of our news from Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.
