Obama says we "Must stay informed and engaged
In an address to the graduating class of Hampton University, President Barack Obama made numerous comments that crossed the border of credulity. But, in keeping with his tendency when speaking in a "private" setting, our President spoke with uncharacteristic candor and offered uncensored insight.
This blog focuses not on the decaying "meat" of his statements, but on the "mint jelly" intended to disguise his comments' fetid odor. As reported by AFP
He drew a line between Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the ` Declaration of Independence, and today's challenges.
"What Jefferson recognized... that in the long run, their improbable experiment -- called America -- wouldn't work if its citizens were uninformed, if its citizens were apathetic, if its citizens checked out, and left democracy to those who didn't have the best interests of all the people at heart.
"It could only work if each of us stayed informed and engaged, if we held our government accountable, if we fulfilled the obligations of citizenship."
Let us quote Mr. Jefferson accurately, "Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe."
Unfortunately for our current president, people can still read, and there is a re-established free press.
As you propound, President Obama, we are informed. We are engaged. We hold your administration accountable. As you explain, that is our responsibility as free citizens of the USA.
