ICE chief's threat does not constitute 'faithful execution of the law'
An appointee of the President openly stated that he and his agency will not necessarily accept illegal immigrants presented to him by Arizona officials.
At high noon on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, President-Elect Obama stood before the nation with his hand on the Bible and repeated these words:
I Barrack Hussein Obama do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
With that he became the 44th President of the United States. One of the enumerated functions of the Office he swore to faithfully execute is:
[H]e shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.
"Taking care" would include instructing his Secretary of Homeland Security to instruct her assistant secretary for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that treating referrals from Arizona officials differently from referrals from any other state does not constitute faithful execution of the laws.
