Good news and bad news on jobs numbers
Do you need a good news/bad news conundrum? Then this Washington Post headline is for you.
Job market improves in April, but unemployment rate edges up
Yes, the private economy added over 230,000 jobs and the government added 66,000 temporary jobs with the Census Department; unmentioned is that the government also added an additional 59,000 jobs in other areas.
In spite of all this jolly news, unemployment increased to 9.9%. Slightly under half of these unemployed have been out of work for over half a year.
Is the glass half full or half empty? If you're one of the lucky ones who is still working or got a private or government job the glass is obviously half full; if you're still unemployed, obviously it is half empty and becoming drier.
