Iran is training the Taliban; Obama grovels
The Times of London is reporting that the Taliban is being trained in the use of roadside bombs and guerrilla tactics in Iran by Iranians:
TALIBAN commanders have revealed that hundreds of insurgents have been trained in Iran to kill Nato forces in Afghanistan. The commanders said they had learnt to mount complex ambushes and lay improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which have been responsible for most of the deaths of British troops in Helmand province.
The accounts of two commanders, in interviews with The Sunday Times, are the first descriptions of training of the Taliban in Iran.
According to the commanders, Iranian officials paid them to attend three-month courses during the winter.
They were smuggled across the border to the city of Zahidan, in southeast Iran, an hour's drive from training camps in the desert.
Instructors in plain clothes provided daily exercises in live firing. The first month was devoted largely to teaching the Taliban how to attack convoys and how to escape before Nato forces could respond.
During their second month they were shown how to plant IEDs in sequence so that the rescuers of soldiers wounded in one blast would be caught in further explosions.
The third month was spent on storming bases and checkpoints. A hilltop fort was among the locations used for practice by a Taliban platoon.
Just curious, but when are we going to start treating these people who are training the Taliban to kill our troops as the enemy?
Not that it matters much to Obama. He's still seeking that elusive "outreach" that has made him a laughingstock from Damascus to Tehran. His latest foray into this useless diplomacy is a message to the Iranian people on the occasion of the holiday Nowruz where he begs the mullahs to open a dialogue with him. Laura Rozen in Politico:
President Obama's message for Iranian New Year, called Nowruz, released at midnight: "I want the Iranian people to know what my country stands for. The United States believes in the dignity of every human being, and an international order that bends the arc of history in the direction of justice - a future where Iranians can exercise their rights, to participate fully in the global economy, and enrich the world through educational and cultural exchanges beyond Iran's borders. ... That is why, even as we continue to have differences with the Iranian government, we will sustain our commitment to a more hopeful future for the Iranian people. ... Finally, let me be clear: we are working with the international community to hold the Iranian government accountable because they refuse to live up to their international obligations. But our offer of comprehensive diplomatic contacts and dialogue stands. Indeed, over the course of the last year, it is the Iranian government that has chosen to isolate itself, and to choose a self-defeating focus on the past over a commitment to build a better future."
Obviously our president is not bowing low enough. How else could the Iranians resist the importunings of our Messiah? Aren't they blinded by the light of his goodness? Can't they see that his heart is true?
Keep it up, Barry. Pretty soon, everyone will be laughing at your gigantic ego that allows you to believe that by the sheer force of your marvelous personality, you can change the spots on the Leopard.
