Total 10-year deficit (2011-2020):  $9.761 trillion

Smallest one-year deficit:  $724 billion

Average annual deficit over 2011-2020 as percent of GDP:  5.2%

Average deficit as percent of GDP under George W. Bush (2001-08):  2.0% 

Debt held by the public, as percent of GDP, in 2008:  41%

In 2020:  90%

Unemployment rate in 2010:  10.1%

In 2011:  9.5%

In 2012:  8.0%
