Nelson Flip Flops on the Cornhusker Kickback
Roll Call is reporting that Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asking him to remove the $100 million bribe known as the "Cornhusker Kickback". Senator Nelson's poll numbers tanked after news of the shady back-room deal was cut to buy the Senator's vote, thus securing the 60th vote needed for cloture.
Criticism is not limited to conservatives and pro-life organizations. His popularity in his state reached a low point this past week when Nelson and his wife were publicly booed as they were leaving a pizza parlor in Omaha.
It's unclear how this may affect Nelson's vote on the final version of the health care bill. Regardless of Nelson's actions in his last two years as a Senator, I'm hard pressed to believe he'll be re-elected, much less attempt to run for re-election.
