Newspaper industry trade journal to cease publication
The grim situation facing the newspaper industry is reflected in the news that Editor & Publisher, a venerable (108 years old) trade publication is to cease publication this year. E&P has been a reliable source to follow the waves of layoffs and circulation decline as the newspaper industry deepens its death spiral. E&P has also been reliably leftist in its ideological approach, reflecting the nature of the dying industry it has served.
The equally reliably leftist Columbia Journalism Review offers an interview with E&P's editor on the closing. No mention, of course, of the suicidal policy of alienating conservatives as a causative factor in the decline of the industry.
A leftist publication serving a leftist industry can no longer make it, and apparently decided that a federal bailout was not likely to rescue it.
