Global warming is in deep manure
President Obama’s agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack announced at the Copenhagen climate change summit that methane gas emissions from the U.S. dairy industry will be reduced by 25 percent by 2020. Step aside big oil and big industry, now we have big cow flatulence causing global warming.
“U.S. to Capture Cow Farts to Save the Planet,” is the title of the recent piece appearing in Daily Finance.
Far left liberals are truly disturbed people.
Here’s part of the Dept. of Agriculture news release:
Anaerobic digester technology is a proven method of converting waste products, such as manure, into electricity. The technology utilizes generators that are fueled by methane captured from the animal manure. Currently, only about 2 percent of U.S. dairies that are candidates for a profitable digester are utilizing the technology. Dairy operations with anaerobic digesters routinely generate enough electricity to power 200 homes.
Through the agreement, USDA and the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy will increase the number of anaerobic digesters supported by USDA programs. Beyond promoting the digesters, the agreement will encourage research, and development of new technologies to help dairies reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Of course, it’s one thing to convert cow-produced methane to energy if it’s actually economically feasible. But it’s quite another matter to fret over cow emissions in hopes of saving the planet from undocumented AGW.
One comment poster, WWWelling, at the Daily Finance site had a little fun with the story:
Why just cows? Surely elephants and hippopatami fart as well. I suggest the UN and the global warming maniacs start first to try and put fart controlling pampers on the Pachyderms and the river horses. If any of them survive that ordeal, then they can start on the Cape Buffalo, the Wildebeest, and don't forget the Indian elephant as well. Then there are the bison herds of Yellowstone, along with the Elk, moose and oh lets not forget, Grizzly bears fart too. Then the are all the bulldogs, Rottweilers and Pit Bulls, Boxers, Chow and Mastiffs as well. And have we forgotten the Sheep? You can't forget the sheep. Especially the Mountain Sheep who fart much closer to the ozone layer than domestic cows.
