Republican Senators: La Raza is Watching You
Senate Republicans wishing to exercise a principled opposition to Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor better be careful according to Janet Murguia of the National Council of La Raza.
Appearing at a news conference on Capitol Hill, Murguia had a special warning for those Senators still laboring under the delusion that democracy welcomes freedom of thought:
"I think that the Republican Party is at a crossroads with our Latino community. It won't be the only way they're defined, but for our community, this vote will matter and it will be long-remembered."
Murguia’s Gestapo-like pressure is a sorry reminder of how hardened collectivists have transformed America’s refreshing democratic experiment into the tribal brawls of old.
In addition, when Murguia says things like “our Latino community” it’s doubtful whether she has any tolerance for dissenting opinions within that community.
In other words, many would argue that Murguia is guilty of dehumanizing her community by not respecting their individuality. Ayn Rand wrote some bestsellers exploring this dark and tragic collectivist mindset.
It’s the kind of mindset that doesn’t lead to happy endings either.
