Palestinians displaced by Iraq War to be resettled in America
Get ready to welcome Palestinians to America, and you can thank the Obama administration for your new neighbors. The Wall Street Journal reports:
The U.S. agreed to resettle 1,350 Palestinians displaced by fighting in Iraq, marking the largest resettlement ever of Palestinian refugees in the nation. The decision appears to signal a shift in Washington's previous position against resettling Palestinians out of concern about the potential impact on U.S. relations with Israel and the Arab world. The resettlement, which is slated to begin this fall, is likely to illicit strong reactions from people on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.A State Department spokesman said the U.S. is responding to an appeal from the United Nations' refugee agency, UNHCR, which has been providing assistance to some 3,000 Palestinians stuck in three makeshift camps in the desert in the Syrian-Iraqi border region.
Palestinians in Iraq and Iran have been used by the rulers of these regimes not just for propaganda purposes -- as a means to carry on the battle against Israel. They have also been used as forces to control these nations' own people. There have been numerous reports over the years that Palestinians have been wielding truncheons and other weapons against Iraqis and Iranians who have resisted their regimes. Of course they have also cheered whenever Americans and Israelis have been murdered. They cheered as Scuds blasted Israel. The Palestinians who worked in Kuwait cheered and supported Iraqi forces when they invaded that tiny nation. Now the door has been opened to allow your taxpayer dollars to help them resettle in America.
Question: why can't they be resettled in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip-both recipients of almost a billion dollars in new aid?
