Very heavy security at Iran protest site
The site designated for today's protest against the regime is ringed with riot police and armored vehicles.
Here's a photo sent to Huffington Post blogger Nico Pitney who has been liveblogging events in Iran for a week:
There are also reports that police are trying to prevent the protestors from gathering. CNN reports "1,000s of people attempting to enter Tehran protest site have been blocked by heavily armed police -- eyewitness"
None of this is deterring the protestors who are showing up in huge numbers. It appears that a confrontation of some sort us inevitable. In fact, late word has what appears to be street battles between demonstrators and what the Iranian twitterers are referring to as "Special Guard" which probably means the Basij.
We will update this post during the day.
