The old double standard
Imagine the outcry if a conservative, white politician in the space of just a few months (1) ended the school voucher program in the District of Columbia and (2) recommended federal funding for abortions in the District. Not only would he be accused of keeping African-American children trapped in a cycle of poverty, drug abuse and crime. He would also be attacked for reducing the numbers of disadvantaged youth not by offering them opportunities for a better life, but by making sure they were never born.
Unfortunately President Obama is neither conservative nor white, so he can probably get away with these policies.
